I wish I lived here

I wish I lived here: open-plan living in Gothenburg

I haven’t done an ‘I wish I lived here’ post in a while, but this is a classic – a lovely, light, open-plan space oozing with Scandinavian style and beautiful touches. I think you’re going to love it as much as I do. Light grey walls – tick, smart white kitchen – tick, concrete worktops – tick and minimal furniture – tick!

I’m particularly inspired by this Gothenburg home this week because of the way the kitchen and living room seamlessly connect, with different ‘zones’ for dining, relaxing and entertaining. We’re planning on knocking down the wall between the kitchen and living room in our new house and I can’t wait for it to come down and become one big space. At the moment we’re spending most of our time walking around the wall from one room to the other.

Here, the kitchen is tucked neatly next to the door to the bathroom. The L-shape of the kitchen units creates the perfect spot for the dining table without blocking off the living space beyond. I love that big window bringing in lots of light and the way the tiles have been laid all the way up to the ceiling to create a coherent look. It’s clean and bright, but little details like the open shelving, hanging lights and carpet runner on the floor make it feel warm and inviting.

The door handles are by Superfront and we’ve been looking at similar ones. I like the way they’re discreet and minimal. How I would love a concrete worktop but I think it might be slightly out of our budget… At least white metro tiles are a cheap, easy way to smarten up a kitchen without breaking the bank.

The living space is further zoned with these mid-century style leather chairs and a textured grey rug. The white washed floors keep the space light, while plants and flowers add a touch of greenery. Isn’t the wall colour the perfect shade of grey? I’m trying out lots of light grey sample paints at the moment, so I’ll let you know which one closest matches this perfectly muted tone…

What do you think, could you live here? I certainly could! I’ll be taking away lots of inspiration for my new home and if it turns out half as nice as this I think I’ll be more than happy.
