Inside the new Menu Space, Copenhagen by Norm Architects

This is the new Menu Space – the showroom, office and cafe of one of my favourite design brands MENU, near the tranquil waters of Nordhavn in Copenhagen. It’s open to the public so if you’re heading to the Danish capital, make sure to visit this raw, industrial space and take in its stunning, minimal setting.

Menu Space is designed by Norm Architects with openness, co-working and collaboration in mind. MENU’s goal was to create a spaces for great ideas, where like-minded creatives can work and meet. As well as a working space for MENU’s team, you can stop by for a coffee, a meeting, or just to have a browse and check out MENU’s designs in person.

The raw, pared-back setting is inspired by the industrial buildings of the surrounding area of Nordhavn. Polished concrete floors and walls provide the perfect backdrop for MENU’s simple yet wonderfully luxurious designs, while Crittall-style windows and flowing curtains help divide the space. Sculptural lighting and huge plants provide the finishing touches.

‘The space draws heavy inspiration from strong materials such as concrete and steel, which can be seen throughout the space. This use of natural and durable materials provides a beautiful contrast to the objects and designs that fill the plateaus, floors, and corners,’ says Norm Architects.

There’s a sleek black bar lit by the brand’s black Cast Pendants. The clean lines of MENU’s Afteroom Bar Stools, designed by Afteroom, give the chair a beautiful, simple silhouette that works so well in this space.

MENU’s Godot sofa by Iskos-Berlin features throughout the space. The soft, curved shapes of the upholstery are inviting and cocooning, while contrasting with the sharp lines of the exterior shell of the sofa.

What a beautiful space. I can’t wait to visit it and have a nose around when I’m next in Copenhagen in August. I love how MENU have opened up their world to the public so that even if you don’t have one of their pieces at home, you can still enjoy their concepts and ideas.

Says MENU’s design director Joachim Kornbæk Engels-Hansen: ‘The idea is to keep Menu Space moving and ever changing. To have friends of the house and people we admire stop by on a regular basis and change the interior layout however they see fit – ensuring that we always have a vibrant, creative, lively space that continues to inspire our neighbours, visitors, friends, clients, and designers.’
