10 of the best grey corner sofas

I get a lot of clients asking about the best grey corner sofas to buy – everyone seems to want a calm, cosy corner in their living room to relax and entertain. Including me! I love the look and style of our current grey three seater sofa for IKEA, but I’m in the market for a lovely, L-shaped design so that there’s more room for us to both stretch out and enjoy.

This one (below) has done us proud, but during renovations we left it downstairs and didn’t cover it all too well when the builders were around. The blankets may look artfully placed and styled but they’re actually hiding big white paint splodges from decorating! A neat corner sofa, still contemporary and Scandinavian in style, would create a snug space, but also work practically – so we’re not arguing over who gets to lie across it while we’re watching TV and we can get a few more bums on seats when friends come over without all sitting and staring at the same wall…

So I’ve rounded up 10 of the best grey corner sofas on the market, all under £3,000. Most are around the £1,000-£2,000 mark, with a few affordable styles coming under a grand. Almost every one comes with the option of the chaise on the left or right hand side – some are two seater and some are three seater – so there’s something for every shaped space, no matter how small or awkwardly shaped.

You might also notice that they’re all on slender legs, I think it gives a more contemporary impression and increases the sense of space if you can see the flooring continue under them. Narrow arms also create a streamlined profile and mean you get more seat space for your buck. Take your pick…

Below I’ve highlighted some of my favourites. The Brunel from Heal’s is a clean, mid-century design with simple proportions and a modular design, meaning the footstool bit can be easily detached and switched from a left to a right handed chaise. It’s made in Britain and comprises a hardwood beech and birch frame with tapered aluminium feet, with a comfortable foam seat and fibre-filled back cushions. The button cushions provide a nice detail. All in all, great quality for a great price I think.

IKEA’s SÖDERHAMN deep-seated corner sofa is a popular design because it’s so flexible. It comes in different modules that can be moved around into various configurations depending if it’s movie night or you’re gathering friends together or you just want your own space. Perfect for large spaces where you have the room to move things around, but also ideal for small spaces if you combine just one or two sections. All the materials of the sofa can be recycled too.

The Wes corner sofa by Made.com has a distinctive shape with it’s rounded cushions. It’s designed by Sweden-founded, London-based studio Cate & Nelson and inspired by Scandinavian design. The name was inspired by their favourite director, Wes Anderson, and I guess that’s why it’s got a slightly quirky character. It has a metal frame and a soft wool blend fabric.

I still want to keep the clean, streamlined form of a contemporary grey sofa

I have my eye on the Vento corner sofa by Made.com. It has generous proportions and smart tailoring. The Vento is inspired by modern European design and has curved armrests, loose back cushions and side bolsters. It’s available in Sterling Grey (dark grey) or Manhattan Grey (a lighter beige-grey) and comes with brushed chrome metal legs. Now sit back, kick your shoes off and relax…
