Norm Architects new bathroom collection for Inbani

Norm Architects’ new bathroom collection for Inbani

Copenhagen-based Norm Architects has designed a new bathroom suite for Spanish brand Inbani, and it’s everything you would expect from the multidisciplinary design studio celebrated for its clean, pared-back, minimal designs. With a focus on quality, durability and timelessness, Norm Architects’ work draws inspiration from traditions and norms that have been refined for centuries within the fields of design, architecture and aesthetics. This new range, entitled ‘Prime’, is no exception (or should I say a prime example – get it?). Minimal and simple in form, the two white bathtubs and sink that comprise the collection are contemporary interpretations of the traditional antique roll-top baths that have become the centrepiece of the smart, stylish bathroom. The soft, rounded shape of the pieces is inspired by the way the pressure of water shapes and expands an elastic material, like filling a water balloon. They say: ‘This natural and recognisable shape of the designs along with the soft rolled edge makes the pieces extraordinarily appealing to the human eye, as well as inviting, familiar and modern at the …

Bert & May kitchens

Bert & May kitchens

I’ve written previously about Bert & May’s beautiful barges, designed to make the maximum use of space without compromising on design, but now I want to introduce you to their dreamy bespoke kitchen range. For me, it was love at first sight. Created in collaboration with London-based Red Deer Architects, this new range comprises three made-to-order kitchens with a focus on honest, natural materials, simple forms and an architectural attention to detail. They’re designed in London and handmade in Yorkshire; the carcasses are made from birch-faced ply and finished with a carefully curated palette of raw materials such as brass, concrete, reclaimed timber and marble. Oh the choices! Here is the birch faced ply, available in 55 paint colour washes which are hand applied to bring out the natural texture of the wood. I love the clean streamlined units without the need for any handles. The pairing of patterned tiles and brass taps with the wood creates a soft, natural feel that’s contemporary and rustic. I think I’ll call it modern rustic! The taps are part of a rang of brassware designed …

I wish I lived here: soft shades of grey in Sweden

I wish I lived here: soft shades of grey in Sweden

I’m getting serious kitchen and bathroom envy here. How beautiful and calm is this three-bedroom flat in Gothenburg, Sweden? I certainly wish I lived here. The light flooding in, the soft shades of grey, the lime washed floorboards, the big connecting rooms, the list is endless, and that hexagonal marble floor in the bathroom, swoon! Most of all, I like the kitchen, with its simple, handle-less doors and smart marble worktop; I’m not sure if I could keep it all that clean but it looks a dream. I like how it doesn’t look to kitchen-y – all the appliances and kitchen clutter hidden away – in fact I can hardly see that hob it is so discreet. Definitely writing notes for my next kitchen. And the bathroom… oh so smart and oh so white. Really lovely and light, with the white walls, modern sanitary ware and a hammam-style floor; it looks like somewhere you could really pamper yourself even though it’s probably a really small space. That’s a great space saving idea – if you have a …

white bathroom

I’m dreaming of… a new bathroom

I often think that the bathroom can be one of the most neglected spaces in a home. Left to one side, it can be a place to whirl through in the morning routine or shut the door on at night; a space often with the least natural light, at the back of a house or squeezed into the smallest corner, which gets damp and stuffy without the love and care taken for its more glamorous neighbours next door, the living room or bedroom. We’ve just put our humble abode on the market (you can see it here) and I must say I’m a bit embarrassed about the bathroom. It’s boring and ugly, certainly not a space you would want to linger in and have a long bath. We decorated on the cheap; it’s functional but you only spend as much time as you need to there. But, how I’d love to have a lovely bathroom where I could pamper and relax in. So, as we look for a new home, I’ve been day-dreaming about my perfect bathroom, …

Loaf Spring/Summer 2015 collection

Hello Monday! Let’s beat the blues and pretend we’re in the French countryside… These images from Loaf’s new Spring/Summer 2015 collection are gorgeous, I love how fresh, light and airy the styling is – they look like they were taken in a lovely French chateau that’s slightly distressed and rustic in all the right places. The collection has a fab name too – Tiddlywinks – drawing inspiration on all things playful to coincide with the launch of their first Little Loafers kids’ range. There’s over 40 new pieces, from squigdy sofas and cosy beds to tactile tables and soft accessories, all handmade in Derbyshire. My favourite is the new Homer kitchen table above (from £695), did you know it’s made from old doors?
