My IKEA kitchen makeover – the transformation

It’s a very exciting day, for I can finally reveal my kitchen makeover! It’s been a huge transformation and I’ve been beavering away behind the scenes, bringing it to life with IKEA. When we moved into our new house and found ourselves with this terribly vibrant, yellow kitchen, which was dark, dingy and unwelcoming to be in, I knew straight away that I wanted the complete opposite – a light, airy room that would be the sociable heart of the house. At the same time, IKEA were promoting the idea that ‘when we cook together, we make more than just food’. The concept that the kitchen is not just a purely functional space for feeding ourselves, but a space for ‘happy household togetherness’, whether it’s gathering your nearest and dearest and using every spare chair available, celebrating those wonderful everyday moments or connecting over long, lazy lunches. It’s a philosophy which really chimes with my own, and having had an IKEA kitchen before and been really happy with it, there was only one brand I wanted to turn …

Home tour - I wish I lived in this monochrome Swedish home

I wish I lived here: a monochrome Swedish home

I do love a home tour and good nosy in someone’s home. This monochrome Swedish home caught my eye on Pinterest for that beautiful dining table shot, with the painted white floors, striking Flos pendant light and Fritz Hansen Ant chairs. I love how dynamic the combination is, it’s almost as if the lights are having a little conversation with the chairs, they both have such character. The light grey walls and light floorboards are a little like what I’ve tried to create in my own living room. How I would love to cover my sofa in a soft, linen cover, I’ve seen this design everywhere and think it’s having something of a moment! For the moment, until I can afford a new cover, or even better a new sofa, I have a handful of linen cushions to try and recreate the look. The bedroom is kept beautifully calm with light grey walls and no artwork. A wire mesh pendant light makes a statement. It looks like a lovely, reflective space, with that big window letting in soft light. …

A calm, neutral home by Studio Oink

I very recently wrote about German design duo Studio Oink (see it here), they’ve become a bit of an obsession of mine of late (just check out their instagram account and you’ll see why…). They’re a sort of three-in-one –or at least multiple-in-one – design practice; they do both interior design, styling and photography. This is another of their projects for German furniture brand Stattmann Neue Mobel, for which they did the art direction, location scouting, styling and photography in their characteristic style that balances poetry and function, simplicity and playfulness. The images look so calm and soft, perfectly complimenting the smooth rounded edges of the wooden tables and chairs. I can’t wait to see more from this design duo (pssst… don’t you just love the bunting?!). Imagery and styling by Studio Oink
