The new Jackson & Levine collection for Habitat

Stylish supper club duo Jackson & Levine have launched their debut homeware collection for Habitat. Featuring handwoven table linens, easy-to-wear aprons and striped napkins, the pieces are designed for simple, informal dining. Perfect for intimate suppers for two, laid-back Friday nights with friends and thrown-together gatherings in the garden this summer. If you’re not familiar with Jackson & Levine – broadcasters Laura Jackson and Alice Levine – they host a London-based supper club. The girls first met at a jumble sale and bonded over a shared love of food. The supper club started life out in Laura’s warehouse flat in east London in 2012, inviting as many people as they had chairs, and has since grown to become a successful food and lifestyle business, with tickets for intimate dinners selling out in seconds. At these highly sought after events, popping up in places like a canal-side ceramics factory or a hidden art gallery, they serve up simple, seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients. They’re curated to be fairly informal affairs, much like an informal dinner party with …

Easy stylish Spring entertaining

Easy spring entertaining

Hurrah, the clocks have gone forward and we have an extra hour of sunlight! As soon as the sun comes out and the light evenings last a little longer, I always feel like it’s time to crack out a cold drink and gather some friends and loved-ones together. So, today I’m showing you how to style a lovely relaxed table for some Spring entertaining, using some smart Scandi accessories from Danish brand Lene Bjerre, available at Houseology. It’s more about bringing items to the table spontaneously in the moment, rather than neat, straight place settings that have a formal atmosphere. It’s about gathering over a platter of yumminess, everyone digging in and helping themselves, drinks in hand …

Eating Out: Vietnamese supper club, Hackney

At the weekend a couple of friends and I enjoyed a wonderful evening of good food and good company at a Vietnamese supper club in Hackney, east London. Saigon-born but London-raised Uyen Luu cooks (along with her mother) up a Vietnamese feast every Friday evening to paying guests. After studying fine art film and video at Central Saint Martins School of Art, she had a clothing and jewellery boutique, travelled the world, before transforming the ground floor of her flat in Hackney into an intimate Vietnamese restaurant each weekend. She is a warm host and makes you feel instantly at home, with freshly cut flowers on the tables, candles and fairy lights in the back terrace and her Scottie weaving in and out of your feet. Guests arrive at 7.30 for drinks before settling down at communal tables- it feels a bit like you’re having a dinner party at a friends house. Then you are brought the freshest summer rolls with pork belly, prawns and her mother’s homegrown herbs, followed by succulent cod’s cheek fishcakes wrapped in mustard …
