My home on Amara's Home Inspiration page - Scandinavian style interiors - grey living room

My home on Amara’s Home Inspiration page

Wonder where you can get all your favourite Scandinavian brands grouped together in one handy place? Well, look no further than online retailer Amara. You might be familiar with them for their interior blog awards they hold each year, but did you know they’re also a one-stop-shop for home inspiration. With over 300 luxury homeware brands and 35,000 products on offer, their website is a treasure trove of home accessories and furniture designed for stylish living. They’ve just launched an exciting, new section to– a shoppable gallery of inspiring images with lots of ideas on how you can achieve the same looks in your own home. They asked a group of bloggers, stylists and designers (including me!) to style up some of their favourite pieces from the site in their own signature style. Arranged by room, style and trends, the new page takes you down a rabbit warren of inspiration, with examples from real homes showing how these products can brighten up a space. Below is my home, with pieces from some of my favourite Scandi brands. You might recognise …

Loyly, Helsinki by Joanna Laajisto

Designer focus: Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio, Helsinki

While I was trawling the Internet, namely Pinterest, for some of the best designed places to visit in Helsinki for my visit in December, I kept coming across the name of interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto. Literally every cool little bar or contemporary restaurant I found had her name attached to it, so I was intrigued to find out more about her creative studio, and more importantly hop on to her projects, stat. Laajisto began her career in the West Coast of the United States. She worked for international architecture practice Gensler in Los Angeles designing large-scale commercial projects, and even travelled the world as a professional snowboarder, before settling back down in her native Finland and setting up Joanne Laajisto Creative Studio. Her work is characterised by a focus on functionality and aesthetics, elegantly combining a neutral palette of tactile, natural materials – lots of wood, …

Farrow & Ball new wallpapers + factory tour

We all know and love Farrow & Ball’s paint, but did you know they also do beautiful handcrafted wallpaper too? They’ve been creating their signature paint colours in Dorset since 1946, but it was only in the 1990s that they started to introduce wallpaper. Using traditional trough and block printing methods, and of course their own paint, they’ve built up a portfolio of charming designs, from contemporary stripes and bold botanical shapes to pretty florals and more traditional paisley patterns. This week I was very lucky to get invited down to the international launch of 3 new designs at their headquarters in Dorset with the Amara blog awards. In celebration of Farrow & Ball’s 70th anniversary, they’ve been reflecting back on their early origins and have taken inspiration from the 1940s for the new collection. Each design – the retro scallops of ‘Arcade’, the quaint countryside scenes of ‘Gable’ and the dazzling geometrics of ‘Enigma – embrace the paradoxical feel of the post-war period, says Farrow & Ball, when people were simultaneously ‘looking forward while …
