Soft blush pink bedroom makeover – BEFORE

Since moving in July, the kitchen and living room have seen complete makeovers, and now it’s time to turn our attention to the master bedroom. During the building works for downstairs, when walls were knocked down, chimney breasts removed and the kitchen replaced, this was our sanctuary away from all the dust and destruction in many ways. I don’t know if sanctuary is really the right word, because at times it felt far from peace and quiet… but for some weeks, without a working kitchen and heating, it was the only liveable room in the house. We had everything in that room – two beds, the sofa, three chest of drawers, boxes and boxes, and all our worldly goods. Barely an inch of the floor could be seen and you had to climb over a sea of stuff to get to the bed. We tacked curtains to the window with nails and cooked meals from a small microwave in a strew of clutter for six weeks. It was horrible, but sometimes things have to get worse before …

Muuto grey armchair - 10 minimal, grey armchair under £500

10 minimal, Scandinavian-style armchairs for under £500

I’m on the hunt for a new, minimal, grey armchair for my living room. We already have this vintage, mid-century number – a bargain find from eBay (see it here in my living room makeover) – but we need another one to go opposite the sofa to even the space out and fill that empty corner. So that when we have friends over there’s plenty of seats to go around and we don’t feel like we’re all squished in a row on the sofa looking at one wall. Or someone invariably gets the short straw and ends up sitting on a hard dining chair brought in from the kitchen. It’s a fairly small space and we don’t want something too overpowering – just a simple design, most probably in grey, with bold, clean lines and minimal, well-designed details. Not too much to ask for you would think, but a small budget makes it a little trickier to find just the right thing at an affordable price. So I’ve scoured the internet and picked out the best buys for under £500 in case …

12 styled days of Christmas

12 styled days of Christmas

It’s definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas… I’ve been part of a very exciting little project that I’m very happy to finally reveal the results of! Super lovely blogger pal Teri of The Lovely Drawer and West Elm invited 11 uber-talented bloggers (12 including Teri) to get into the festive spirit and each style up our own Christmas table tops. Each beautifully snapped and styled table is being posted throughout the first 12 days of Christmas over on The Lovely Drawer as well as West Elm’s blog Front + Main to give you a sneak peek into how we all do Christmas and share some ideas on how to celebrate this festive season. And I’m day 6! You can see some of the others, so far, here and follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #kindredspirits. For my table styling I went for a bit of a forest theme, with lots of soft, muted colours, foraged greenery and natural materials. When we celebrate the festive season it’s quite a relaxed, informal affair, it’s really just about gathering with loved ones, enjoying good food, good …

West Elm comes to London

J Crew isn’t the only American store to land on our shores. The popular homeware store West Elm has come to the UK and opened up shop on Tottenham Court Road today- just in time for Christmas! Founded in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York, the store has been helping people express their personal style at home with collaborations with locals artists and craft communities, as well as a focus on handcrafted products. The 12,000 sq ft shop in London, neighbouring Paperchase, Habitat and Heals, will feature furniture, textiles, accessories and gifts, as well as a West Elm Market for kitchenware and homekeeping accessories, and a coffee shop. To mark the opening, the London shop will include a ‘Local Gallery Wall’ featuring art from UK artists sourced through Etsy and curated by Will Taylor of the blog Bright.Bazaar. West Elm will also offer a suite of in-store services at the Design Lab, where customers can take part in design consultations, workshops and space planning sessions. Check out West Elm’s blog Front & Main here.   Here’s my pick of …
