German retailer Manufactum offers a carefully curated collection of simple, well-made objects for the home that are designed to last a lifetime. Perhaps you’re already familiar with their functional, utilitarian products – the almost 30-year-old company already has nine bricks-and-mortar stores in Germany. I was surprised though that I had never heard of the brand – their ethos is right up my street – but luckily for us Brits, Manufactum has recently expanded its collection to the UK via their website.
This brand ties in perfectly with my #thesimpleeveryday spirit – their products seek to turn everyday moments into extraordinary experiences. Says Max Heimann, managing director of Manufactum:
‘Our collections will appeal to those who want to discover premium quality pieces which will bring through their use in everyday life. Beautifully crafted and designed for long-term use, our products become cherished, promising both functional and aesthetic excellence.’
They have everything you could ever need in the home with over 10,000 items, over half of which are available to the UK (triple the amount when the UK site was first launched in 2002). Now that’s a lot! Every single item is the best of the best, handpicked from highest quality manufacturers and craftspeople. Each product has to be both beautiful and useful.
There’s classic, matt-polished copper pots by Falk and natural coloured French linen made in a 100-year-old mill near Flanders for the kitchen; the softest, washed linen bedding made by the Lithuanian manufacturer Orgamint, and undyed, pure wool blankets for the bedroom; terry cloth towels from Japan and fragrant Marseille soap for the bathroom; plus simple stationery, garden equipments, toys and much more.
Here are some of my favourite products that might catch your eye too:
These simple designs really appeal to the senses. When I got a sneak peek of the collection at the London press view, I couldn’t stop touching the soft bed linen, tactile objects and beautifully handmade pieces. I could really see the quality and thought that had gone into each and every item. They’re the type of things that just get better with age as you use them everyday. I just hope they open a shop here in the UK!
