I’m very excited to share the first look at the new Bisley Home Space that I have styled for Clerkenwell Design Week this week. For the festival, British brand Bisley tasked me with transforming a corner of their London showroom to showcase their stylish new design-led Fern collection. The brief centred on the idea of wellbeing and creating a space for calm, with the motto ‘feel well, work well, live well’.
The result is a little window into my world, curating together all the ingredients that I think go into making a feel good, mood boosting home. From tactile materials and natural textures, to fresh greenery and homely, personal touches, I’ve created a lived-in space that reflects what I’m all about – soothing, relaxed interiors.
I want to create simple spaces that connect on a deeper level beyond just aesthetics or fleeting trends, and I want to help people get more from their interiors so they can create spaces that work for them not against them. One simple way to design for wellbeing is to design just for you, not anyone else. It’s all about understanding what works for you so you can create your own personal sanctuary. I believe the new trend in interior design is not a one size fits all solution, but the idea of developing a personal style that reflects you, and you only. With 16 colours and five styles to choose from, the Fern collection lets you express your style and build upon a timeless aesthetic that will endure for years to come.
Let’s go back to the mood board. The Bisley Home Space really signals a new era for Bisley, shifting from their well-known multidrawer units to stylish storage solutions for small spaces in the home.
I wanted to create an uplifting and nature inspired feel, with little details to reflect a truly personal, homely environment. The space centres around four Fern units – the Fern Cabby in Chalk, the Fern Middle in Olive Green, and two Fern lockers in Goose Grey and Anthracite. They helped inform the biophilic-inspired colour palette and the direction for the tranquil space. The Fern units are all versatile enough to be used in a hallway, living room, home office or little nook in the home. The suggestion here is that you can really make them your own.
I wanted the Bisley Home Space to feel like someone had just walked out the door – so as well as Bisley designs, there’s pieces you might recognise from my own home, with even my own worn-out Converse gently discarded on the jute rug. The lamp is also mine, as is the mug, magazines and books.
My favourite feature in the space is the cork wall – I wanted to bring the natural world into the sleek, corporate space and make it feel richer in texture. The panels are actually normally used as cork flooring and I love the deep veining that adds so much detail in contrast to the smooth, plain units. The cork panels have been paired by a half green wall, painted in Veneto Verde by Pickleson paint. Fabric samples, paint swatches and postcards have been pinned up to lend a relaxed, creative feel to the space. I love it so much I might now try and recreate this in my own home office!
On the walls you will also spot Bisley’s versatile Reef shelf, which, like the Fern collection, is made from sustainable folded steel and comes in the same array of colours. Perfect for a hallway, it features three handy hooks. I think they look great clustered together in pairs or threes. Plus they’re a steal at £52 each.
I hope the space will catch people’s eyes as they rush to work or through the bustle of Clerkenwell Design Week. I wanted to create a calm, quiet moment in an otherwise noisy, busy, city setting, offering an opportunity to stop, pause, breath and just take in the details. What do you think?
Next time you’ll see me style the Fern collection in my own home. I can’t wait to show you just how versatile the collection, and how easy it is to style a corner of your home to reflect your true personal style.
