Tis nearly the season… you enjoyed my post rounding up the best minimalist advent calendars, so I thought today I would turn my attention to minimalist Christmas decorations. I’ve scoured the internet in search of simple, sustainable designs that can be treasured and used again and again, year after year. You won’t find any tinsel, glitter or indeed anything kitsch here. No, no, no! Instead, we have 35 beautiful baubles, paper trees, handmade decorations and Scandi-style stars for the minimalist home.
I love the idea of painting your own paper mache DIY ornament from Søstrene Grene, or customising a tree with an antique brass star garland from Lifestory. Tactility is key here – from Toast’s hand-blown glass baubles, made by master glass blowers in Syria, to Alice in Scandiland’s hand-turned wooden baubles, crafted in a rural workshop in Northamptonshire.
I remember when I was growing up, we were allowed to buy just one new Christmas decoration each year, which made each bauble feel extra special and particularly well chosen. I’ve tried to bring that tradition into my own home and each year I love getting out my paper decorations, white pine cones and bristle brush trees out again.
