Highlights from Clerkenwell Design Week 2025

The best new furniture launches and finds from Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, an annual design festival that transforms London’s Clerkenwell into a thriving hub of exhibitions, open showrooms, talks and events. Here’s what caught my eye, from Seventies re-editions and architectural designs to eco paints and beautiful beds.

Ferm Living x Utzon – Can Lis collection
Danish brand Ferm Living has collaborated with the Utzon Center to celebrate the design legacy of Danish architect Jørn Utzon. The new Can Lis collection is named after Utzon’s Mallorcan residence, Can Lis – a family home built in 1972 on a remote cliff-face overlooking the Mediterranean sea.

The Can Lis collection pays homage to the rustic spaces of Can Lis, using tactile textures and a rich materiality to balance function and craft. For the first time Ferm Living has used Douglas fir, a softwood that has plenty of character in its grain. I love the Luver portable lamp, a design made of solid Douglas fir, subtly referencing the louvred windows and doors at Can Lis. I’m also quite taken by the Vuelo cups, which feature an expressive sketch of birds in flight, found in the Utzon archive.

The Heir collection by COAT x Kirkby Designs
COAT paints has teamed up with textile brand Kirkby Design to create a rich paint palette inspired by old-world luxury. There’s 11 colours in the Heir collection, from buttery yellow Queen’s Gambit and plaster pink Title Pending, to forest green Gown & Out and the regal Blue Blood. The tones have a luxurious, heritage feel, curated to add warmth to any space. COAT’s paints are water-based, low VOC and made-to-order, reducing waste. They even have a recycling programme for empty tins.

Cork collection by MAIE
MAIE, founded by Theres Hoyos, creates considered objects and bespoke furniture, combining a timeless aesthetic with the highest quality materials. With an ethos of ‘slow craft for slow living’, MAIE was born from Theres’ own struggle to find thoughtfully designed furniture that was customisable and better for the planet.

Previously MAIE has created sculptural tables, travertine plinths and coffee tables, but for the first time it’s turning its hand to cork. Not surprisingly it’s one of my favourite materials, for its tactility and sustainable credentials. Made in Portugal, MAIE’s sculptural cork design highlights the material’s texture, and comes in a range of finishes, from burnt cork to marbled cork with green veining.

Luxurious beds by Italian brand Bolzan
This was a new brand for me – Bolzan, a company that designs and manufactures beautiful beds in north-east Italy. Their beds and headboards are minimal and simple, but elevated by the finest details, from moveable bedside tables to artisanal finishes. For Milan Design Week recently they collaborated with designers India Mahdavi, Julie Richoz, Sam Baron and Martino Gamper to create a new design-led headboard collection. Those designs are stunning and out of this world, but I thought you might appreciate some of their other designs, like the Jill bed and Flag bed.

Meon furniture by Gaze Burvill
Meon is a new furniture brand conceived by British outdoor furniture manufacturer (and B Corp) Gaze Burvill. With the strap-line ‘Nature built in’, Meon was founded on the idea that good design should be part of the everyday – but intended to last for years and years. The name Meon comes from the river valley where the Hampshire-based company is based, and everything is made by skilled craftpeople on site using ash wood. Designed by Katie Walker, their Levity chair features a single continuous piece of steam-bent ash that forms the arms and backrests with a smooth seat for maximum comfort.

London-based design studio Craeton
I fell in love with everything about Craeton at Clerkenwell Design Week – from the minimal branding to the sleek, simple, Japandi-style furniture. Craeton is a London-based design studio founded by husband-and-wife team Richard Williamson and Isabelle Zeretzke. They create made-to-order, collectible furniture founded on the principles of honest design. Each piece is designed to celebrate masterful craftsmanship and draw focus to the natural beauty of ethically sourced, high-quality materials. I particularly like their Tank Dining Chair, made of intersecting timber planes that makes it a design that looks good from all angles, the front as much as the back.

New launches from GUBI
Danish design company GUBI opened up their beautiful London townhouse for Clerkenwell Design Week to showcase a series of new launches. Star of the show was Pierre Paulin’s F300 lounge chair. Originally designed in the 1960s, the playful design was considered futuristic for the time, and now has a quintessentially Seventies look – all sleek curves and fluid lines. The chair, along with the companion side table, was originally made of fiberglass or injected polyurethane, but is now crafted in Italy using an engineered polymer created from industrial plastic waste. The based comes in either Alabaster White or Pastel Green, with a choice of upholstery.
