Muuto 70/70 table in green - modern Scandinavian design dining table - plants in the home

My Muuto 70/70 table – modern Scandinavian design dining table

When I revealed my kitchen makeover, I didn’t say much about my dining table, the focus was much more on the transformation of the space and the design of the kitchen units. But, the table is so beautiful and I’m so pleased with it, I thought it deserved a post of its own. Now many of you who have read this blog a while or even a little, may well know by now how much I like to stay in my familiar comfort zone of white walls and soft, light – mostly grey – colours. It’s an approach I’ve tried and tested and feel the happiest with – using neutral backdrops and adding interest and texture with furniture, rugs, artwork and plants. But, with grey kitchen units, light grey walls and painted white floorboards in the kitchen, I wanted something a little different to my usual choice for my dining table. I didn’t want more grey, or something black and heavy, nor something white that would visually fade away into the space. So I went for green! It’s not …

Spring bedroom updates

The sun is shining, the weather’s hotting up and I think it’s time to shed the thick wool blankets and cosy bedding in favour of soft French linen and bright pastel shades in the bedroom. With Spring in full bloom, I feel the need to refresh, de-clutter and brighten up my home. I’m thinking lots of calming natural textures, clusters of plants (if I can keep them alive) and accents of blush pink or fern green. The windows open and the sun pouring in. But, you don’t have to completely overhaul a bedroom to get a new perspective, by simply changing the bedding, adding a new print to your collection or a cushion or two, you can create an easy-to-attain, affordable update for Spring. Or simply, by rearranging the room around – that used to be my absolute favourite pastime as a teenager… At the moment, I’ve just got a new rug to go by my bedside (more of that next week) and have switched up my cotton sheets and wool blanket for much lighter and …

Easy stylish Spring entertaining

Easy spring entertaining

Hurrah, the clocks have gone forward and we have an extra hour of sunlight! As soon as the sun comes out and the light evenings last a little longer, I always feel like it’s time to crack out a cold drink and gather some friends and loved-ones together. So, today I’m showing you how to style a lovely relaxed table for some Spring entertaining, using some smart Scandi accessories from Danish brand Lene Bjerre, available at Houseology. With an other half who is French, I’ve well and truly adopted the tradition of apéro, that time around 7pm when you can sit back, forget about work, open a bottle and enjoy some great food with great company. Taking inspiration then from the French, mixed in with some tapas-style dining from the Spanish, this look is really informal and laid-back. It’s more about bringing items to the table spontaneously in the moment, rather than neat, straight place settings that have a formal atmosphere. It’s about gathering over a platter of yumminess, everyone digging in and helping themselves, drinks in hand …

modern meets vintage + houseology giveaway

Thank you for all your entries, this giveaway is now closed and the winner has been announced. Congratulations Nix Glover! I love mixing old with new: a sleek black table with a display of vintage glass bottles, a modern table with a brass chandelier overhead, a lovingly worn armchair with a monochrome geometric cushion for example. It’s modern meets vintage; each quirky, slightly mismatched item complimenting the other to create a seamless whole. It gives you freedom to express yourself, to showcase trinkets picked up on travels, or designer buys with flea market finds. Here I’ve picked some modern rooms that are beautifully bohemian. They all have white walls, but use statement pieces to do the talking – perhaps a strong industrial light fitting here, a group of odd chairs there, bold flashes of moody black accessories and accents of brass bling. It’s all in the little details. I’ve also teamed up with online interior design store Houseology to give you a chance to recreate this look for yourselves, more on that after the pictures…   One of Houseology.com’s most popular brands Eichholtz …
