I have always lusted after the beautiful clothes, linen, homeware and fabrics by English store Cabbages and Roses. Their images always convey a countrylife charm, making you want to picnic in a meadow on vintage paisley rugs and cushions or settle down in the Cotswolds with a warm fire and dog at your toes. Although I will always be a fan of the flowery prints of Cath Kidston, Cabbages and Rose’s prints seem somewhat more authentic and a little less contrived. They have more of a vintage nostalgia and you can really feel the quality of the linen. The colours of the fabrics feature a perfectly neutral palette, making you think of breton stripes, grey shells on the beach and faded wallpaper. I first discovered their clothes and homeware in the Jigsaw store in Guildford, where I purchased the inspiring book, ‘Homemade Vintage’, featuring different ways to make their bags, purses and cushions. (I would recommend this fabric shop, The Cloth House, on Berwick Street, Soho, if anyone was thinking about recreating their items with their own sewing machine).
I was recently looking on one of my favourite blogs, ‘Dress, Design & Decor’, and found I was mentioned in one of Daniella’s posts, as I recommended Cabbages and Roses to her. You can find a giveaway of one of Cabbages and Roses Tuberose & Ylang candles. Just pop by their site or blog and then comment on Dress, Design & Decor.
Next week at Chelsea Town Hall, Cabbages and Roses are having a little sale…
