Brazilian artist, Angelica Dass, creates subtle portraits of people by referencing the PANTONE® colour scheme to record and catalog every possible human skin tone. PANTONE® Guides are one of the main classification systems of colours, which are represented by an alphanumeric code, allowing you to accurately recreate any of them in any media. Titled Humanae, Dass’s project is a chromatic inventory, with an endless spectrum of colours, from the very lightest pinks, to warm peaches and rich chocolatey browns. To create these artworks, Dass takes a sample of 11×11 pixels of a model’s face and then matches it to an exact PANTONE® tone, which is then applied to the background.
