What: The Real George Orwell: Down and Out in Paris and London
Where: BBC Radio Four
When: 10 episodes, January 28- February 5, 10.45pm
I read this book about a year ago, and now BBC Radio Four are broadcasting a production of it. Down and Out in Paris and London is Orwell’s vivid memoir of his time living among the poor when he was a struggling young writer. It documents the author’s subversion into poverty, initially working as a dishwasher in Paris and surviving on scraps from the kitchen, and later, on his return to London, living in doss houses and hostels among tramps.
