Here’s my pick of three things to do this week- an exhibition on Eileen Gray in Paris, an exhibition all about light at the Hayward Gallery, and a hot and steamy cinema experience in Shoreditch (and I’m not talking about the back row seats..).
STOP
What: Eileen Gray
Where: Pompidou Centre, Paris
When: Until May 20
This exhibition shows Eileen Gray’s multi-faceted talents, from drawing and painting, to lacquering and interior decorating, to architecture and photography. The Centre Pompidou has concentrated on Eileen Gray’s works for the Monte-Carlo Boudoir, the Rue Bonaparte bedroom, E 1027 and the artist’s own villa, Tempe a Pailla. Slides, maquettes and photos of interiors are reproduced as an exhibition wallpaper, so visitors can see the furniture in its original context. A must see.
LOOK
What: Light Show
Where: Hayward Gallery, London
When: Until April 28
Light Show brings together sculptures and artworks that use light in different ways, creating environments and sensory works that play tricks with the viewer’s perception. On show is work from Dan Flavin, James Turrell, Nancy Holt, Olafur Eliasson and Jenny Holzer.
LISTEN
What: Hot Tub Cinema
Where: Shoreditch, London
When: Various dates
You heard it here first. The latest craze for cinema goers is watching your favourite film in a hot tub. Factory 7 in Shoreditch is offering just that, with tubs that hold up to 8 people and waiters serving champagne. Upcoming movies include Top Gun tonight, Pulp Fiction on March 2, Dirty Dancing on March 3 and Labyrinth on March 4.
What are you doing this weekend?
