Japanese studio Nendo has designed a series of tables using a technique called ‘udukuri’, which involves carving away the soft parts of cypress boards so that the harder curves of the wood grain stand out. The boards are then covered with paper and traced in coloured pencil to transfer the wood grain to the paper, just like you used to do as a child with pencil rubbings. The furniture will be presented at the Saint-Etienne Design Biennal in France from March 14 to 31.
