Pernthaler Architekt has recently finished this housing project in Graz, Austria. The scheme features housing, and office space as well as a large-scale intensive roof garden, swimming pool and sauna overlooking the city. The ensemble is arranged around a listed 16th century building, with a continuous green space and courtyards in the middle.
The unique thing about this project is that there are a variety of housing typologies: from rented apartments and private penthouses, to student residences and assisted living for the elderly.
“Essential motivation for the design was to create a self-sustaining city district, properly functioning with public service facilities for daily requirements. With regard to social sustainability, a widely diversified range is offered, connecting generations, including particular attention for people with special needs,” Pernthaler explains.
The result is a friendly, welcoming environment. Maybe it’s just because the sun is shining in the photos, but I already like the way the residents have personalised the balconies with plants, hammocks and deck chairs.
