This week I wrote an article on Building Design about a fascinating upcoming photography exhibition that documents the UK’s threatened prefabs. Intended to last just 10 years, prefabricated houses were first built as a temporary solution to the post-war housing crisis but have earned their place in the hearts and memories of residents many years later. London-based photographer Elisabeth Blanchet and journalist Sonia Zhuravlyova have carried out an intensive study into prefabs across the country and have captured their various characters, some as old as the estates, on camera. Read more about the exhibition and what the residents think of the impending demolition of their beloved prefabs here.
