You might have been wondering where I’ve been over the past few weeks with the distinct lack of blog posts on here. Fear not, I have not abandoned the blog, just been on a little holiday to the beautiful Croatia! We spent 12 days travelling from Dubrovnik to Split, visiting various idyllic islands inbetween, including the party island of Hvar, bucolic Lokrum and peaceful Korcula.
The first few days we stayed with the lovely Marija Bilicic whose guesthouse features a rustic terrace complete with a whole menagerie of animals, including five tortoises, two cats, one budgie and one dog. It was a steep walk down to the old town (175 steps we counted) but well worth it for the views. Once in the old town, I recommend a trip around the city walls to get your bearings, followed by a well-earned drink to cool down at the cliff-top Buza bar, hidden behind the a narrow set of streets and perched on the rocks looking over Lokrum Island. This too is worth a visit, as a perfect escape from the more touristy centre of Dubrovnik. The island is dotted with majestic peacocks and if you walk around to the back of the island you can find a secluded spot on the rocks to bask in the sunlight and have a dip in the clear water.
The next stop was Korcula, 13km northwest of Dubrovnik. Here we stayed with Ratko at Ojdanic, a pair of apartments with fantastic views across the water to the mountainous Peljesac Peninsula.
We followed Korcula with a few days in Hvar, well-known for its parties during Yacht Week, but also renowned for its lavender fields inland, the results of which are sold on stalls along the harbour in the form of little pillows and pure lavender oil, the aroma guiding you from one end of the town to the other.
I really liked this shop called Croot, it had some handmade Croatian crafts as well as vintage sunglasses and antiques.
