Shopping for glasses is my least favourite type of shopping. There’s so many different styles but finding the right style to suit your face shape is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And once you’ve been through that arduous process and found a pair (that probably cost an arm and a leg), you tend to stick with them for years and years. This is why I like the sound of Ace & Tate, an eyewear specialist created in Amsterdam, which sells handcrafted eyewear at a reasonable price.
Ace & Tate was founded on the premise that high quality, high fashion eyewear doesn’t have to command a high price. Their first priority is design- each frame from their opening collection began in Amsterdam, where a studio team updated classic heritage forms with reference to modern European design. The company was named after the cellulose acetate from which a majority of the frames are formed- a traditional material that is strong, lightweight and lasting. The acetate is sourced from a 150-year-old Italian company and modelled at a family-owned workshop in northern Italy.
The best thing is that Ace & Tate produce its glasses and sells them straight to the buyer- no optician, no franchise and therefore cheaper glasses (yay!). I’m very intrigued that you can try four frames for style at home for free- I might start changing my glasses as often as my trainers..
“Ace & Tate’s mission is to make it possible for you to change your eyewear as often as you change your sneakers, without compromising. Glasses wearers ourselves, our philosophy is simple. We design frames we love, and we sell them to you at a fair price.”
