A new seasonal farm-to-street kitchen, more commonly known as a juice bar called Lovage has opened at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, east London. The small take away bar offers a selection of healing, cleansing and sustaining juices, teas and shakes, perfect for a health-kick in this cold January. Cleansing juices, made using a hydraulic press process (which extracts all the vital elements from the produce) include Winter Tincture made with lemon, ginger and wildflower honey or Viridian made from veg-of-the-moment kale alongside fennel, squash, lettuce, apple and wild greens. Those in need of a Monday morning uplift should try Cinnamon & Apricot Tea, with ginger, cinnamon, dried apricot, dried cherry, currant and whole cane sugar. Even if the temperature is dipping outside, I like the sound of La Grotta’s Satsuma Miyagawa sorbet and Chocolate Barley ice-cream for an almost guilt-free treat.
Here’s what Lovage says about itself:
We celebrate the beauty, vitality, joy and magic of plants and the land that nurtures them, and we trust that nature knows best when it comes to our health and well-being.
Our approach in the kitchen is intuitive and spirited. We admire foods in their whole, unadulterated forms and allow their sensory signals to guide us.Parallels in nourishing traditions drawn across cultures inspire us but our actions reflect our city and the rural lands that support it. Our concise yet inclusive menu is guided by the seasons, a showcase of local produce at their most splendid.
