Roos Soetekouw is a textile and interior designer based in Amsterdam. A graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, her work is characterised by bold colour combinations, careful detailing and luxurious fabrics. ‘In my designs I look for the limits of the impossible,’ she says.
Her Fringe collection, for example, is a textile collection based on a fabric called Mattress that she designed for the Exchange hotel in Amsterdam. Cushions and throws feature an exquisite weaved pattern, with fringing along the edges; my favourite being the turquoise with orange accents below. It kind of reminds me of another Dutch designers work Mae Engelgeer, but with a lot more detail and texture – both beautiful.
She says: ‘For this fabric, I pealed open a mattress, the glue pattern inside was so pretty. This was the inspiration for the graphic design of the fabrics. I drew, scanned, painted, scanned, printed and did all of this over and over until the pattern looked the way it does now.’
