I’m so excited to show you some styling I did for my very good friend Saskia Frost of Frost + Dutch. Saskia is one of my oldest and dearest friends, I’ve known her since I was about 7 or 8 years old. At school she was always the most creative out of all of us, doodling and coming up with beautiful sketches and charcoal drawings (which she still does). While we were all struggling with form and shadows, it just seemed to come naturally to her. We always knew she would go on to do something uber creative and share these talents with the world!
After studying Fine Art at university, Saskia set up Frost + Dutch with her mother Marianne a couple of years ago – the name comes from both their surname and their nationality (Marianne is Dutch, Saskia is half Dutch). Based in my hometown of Guildford, Frost + Dutch are already quickly building up their portfolio, with necklaces and bracelets made with semi-precious stones, a range of cushions, bespoke artwork and these beautiful, quirky prints.
Inspired by Saskia’s trips to the Black Isle in Scotland, they’re based around animals found in British countryside and popular dog breeds (I love the little daxie). Each print is drawn by Saskia on the computer and includes a subtle patch of tartan that blends in with the coat of each animal.
I styled a couple – including the elegant pink flamingo and cheeky French Bulldog – in my own home to show how they could be proudly put on display. While these super affordable 30 x 40cm prints can be neatly framed and protected for years to come, I’m also partial to a little bit of washi tape for that cool, contemporary feel… I can never quite decide where to put things on walls, always a bit nervous to make an ugly hole in the wall! (But, if I was as nearly creative as Saskia, I would get to work on creating one of these clever DIY poster hangers using Apartment Apothecary’s tutorial… one day!)
