My favourite children’s interior brands I’ve discovered since being pregnant

Since I’ve been planning our simple, gender neutral nursery, I’ve been immersing myself in the world of children’s interiors. I’ve been scrolling through Instagram, pinning away on Pinterest and saving all my favourite finds. So I thought in today’s post, I would share a selection of the best children’s interior brands that I’ve discovered since becoming pregnant. The majority of the companies listed here are Danish (don’t they just know how to live simply and stylishly!) and have a focus on Scandinavian style and sustainable living.

[disclosure: I will be working with Scandiborn on our nursery makeover, you can see a little preview here]

Oliver Furniture
Based just north of Copenhagen, Oliver Furniture is a Danish company that creates Scandinavian wooden furniture for the modern family. Founded in 2003 by cabinetmaker Søren Rørbæk, Oliver Furniture was born out of respect for traditional wood making and craft. Their designs may look distinctly contemporary, but they’re conceived to stand the test of time and even be passed down to future generations.

Sustainability is key to Oliver Furniture’s thinking. Their various furniture series have be designed to be easily adapted and converted as a child grows up, ensuring the lifespan of a design endures beyond the initial purchase. The Wood Mini+, for example, transforms from a cot bed to a junior bed and can be set in five different versions, lasting from the baby years to when a child is 9 years old. Simply use a conversion kit and mattress extension to transform the design.

Oliver Furniture’s designs are produced under sustainable conditions in Europe, using wood sourced from certified forests and treated with non-toxic, water-based lacquer and paint.

Charlie Crane
Charlie Crane is a Paris-based brand founded in 2013 by Thomas Lépine with the aim of creating beautiful furniture that can fit seamlessly into the modern home. As they say: ‘With Charlie Crane creations, parents are proud to display their children’s furniture throughout the house. The baby rocker is integrated into the living room decoration; the high chair matches the dining room table and chairs and the cot becomes a work of art!’

I’ve always believed that you shouldn’t have to compromise your style for a child. The LEVO baby rocker, for example, looks like a mini version of a simple, Scandi style chair you might find in a stylish home. Available in beech or walnut, with a variety of cushioned inserts, the bent plywood frame allows the baby to be gently rocked to sleep. Charlie Crane has just collaborated with young Swedish company Garbo & Friends to create a new floral print dotted with yellow mimosa.

Ferm Living Kids
You’re probably all familiar with Danish design brand Ferm Living, but they’re also well known for their kid’s range. In the Ferm Living Home, a children’s room is ‘a sanctuary from the restrictions and boundaries of the outside world, where only their creativity defines the limits’. From tasteful play kitchens and wooden tea sets, to animal cushions and adorable storage boxes, Ferm Living’s homeware for kids is unique, imaginative, but most of all fun.

Liewood
Based in Copenhagen, Liewood is another Danish children’s interior brand that I’ve had my eye on. Founded in 2015 by Anne Marie Lie Nielsen, Liewood creates simple products defined by a focus on functionality, pure shapes and fine lines. Nielsen, a mum herself, spent 15 years in the fashion industry working with international retail brands, before starting Liewood to showcase her belief that beauty lies in the detail. Liewood’s ambition is typically Nordic: ‘to advocate slow living – creating products that will last for generations’.

Liewood’s products are created under safe and fair conditions, while their textiles are made in India at a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified supplier. I particularly like Liewood’s organic cotton muslin cloths with the rabbit ears, the natural rubber toys and hypoallergenic silicone teethers.

Cam Cam Copenhagen
Cam Cam Copenhagen was founded in 2012 by architect couple Sara Giese Camre and Robert Warren Paulsen. With an understanding of just how important our surroundings are from the very beginning, Cam Cam Copenhagen creates quality, timeless and tactile designs for children. From FSC-certified wooden furniture to patterned organic cotton textiles, Cam Cam Copenhagen’s collection is charming and poetic, combining tradition with contemporary design. ‘We believe that there is a need for calm and harmonious products for children and babies, as a gentle contrast to the modern-day life for children, which is full of distractions,’ they say.

OYOY Living Design
Founded in 2012 by the Danish designer Lotte Fynboe, OYOY creates home accessories (for children and adults alike) that are defined by a creative and playful approach. The name OYOY comes from the letters ‘OY’, which can be found on all Danish airplanes since 1929. Proud of their Danish heritage, OYOY’s design collections are rooted in the Scandinavian traditions of simplicity and long-lasting functionality. With unique details and vibrant colour combinations, the products are inspired by childhood memories and nostalgic moments.

Even before I was pregnant, I knew I was going to get our future child one of their adorable sausage dog stuffed toys. In the quirky family of friends, there’s also Henry the elephant, Mr Nelsson the monkey, Baby Elvis the leopard and Bob the penguin to add a playful twist to even the most neutral of nurseries.

Nobodinoz
Nobodinoz is a French and Spanish brand founded by Murielle and Roman Bressan. They create colourful accessories and long-lasting products for kids and grown-ups, from wooden toys and furniture to bedding and beanbags. I’ve had my eye on their floor cushions and playmats for a while now – the best bit of being a kid was making dens and these look like they’re perfect for tumbling around and releasing a kid’s imagination.

All of Nobodinoz’s products are made in Europe, while their fabrics are dyed and printed locally on organic cotton in Barcelona.
