9 of the best minimalist high chairs

It’s time for another instalment in my ‘Best Of’ series, this time focusing on minimalist high chairs for the simple home. If you have a little one, a high chair is a functional, utilitarian piece that will be getting a lot of wear day in day out. You want it to be practical – but you also want your high chair to look the part too. Just because it’s for a child, doesn’t mean it should compromise on style. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be looking for something simple and stylish that can fit seamlessly into your home and not look out of place.

Here I’ve rounded up 9 of the best minimalist high chairs, from affordable design staples that can be customised for less, to timeless design classics that have stood the test of time and can adapt and grow with your child.

9 of the best minimalist high chairs
1. Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair in natural oak, £235, John Lewis & Partners [Ad – affiliate link] – A popular design created by Peter Opsvik in the 1970s that can adjust with your child until they’re sitting in a proper chair. It rights up to the dining table and can be customised with a variety of accessories, including a newborn insert
2. Charlie Crane Tibu highchair, £219.95, ScandibornThe high chair we have for O. Inspired by 1950s French industrial design, it offers ten different seating configurations allowing it to be used from 6 months to 8 years old and over. Purchase the table top, belts and seat cushions separately. I love the simple form and eye-catching removable cushion covers, the only negative is I wish the screw-in tray table was easier to remove on a day to day basis
3. Carl Hansen & Søn ND54 high chair, £480, NestDesigned by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel for their twin daughters in 1954 and relaunched in 2020 in a beautiful FSC-certified beech with a non-toxic matt lacquer. A moulded wooden insert for young babies can be purchased separately. On the pricier end of the spectrum but beautifully timeless and also easy to clean. Read my review on the blog here
4. Leander high chair in natural, £224, Cuckooland [Ad – affiliate link] – Moulded in European beech wood and finished with water based lacquer, this chair is designed help aid your child’s posture during mealtimes. It also has a lightweight form and only weighs 5.1kg
5. Leckford wooden high chair, £70, John Lewis & Partners [Ad – affiliate link] – A classic, practical, fixed position highchair with a removable tray in a stylish warm wood
6. Nobodinoz Growing Green Evolving high chair, £178, ScandibornIn natural wood with no plastic in sight, this high chair is perfect from 6 months all the way to 6 years, adapting as your baby grows
7. Kaos Klapp foldable high chair with safety rail, £240, Kidly [Ad – affiliate link] – A foldable design by award-winning product designer Ole Petter Wullum, suitable from 6 months age to 8 years old
8. Micuna Ovo Luxe One high chair, £398, Smallable – Available in two colours, you can customise with different chair covers and it can be converted into a chair
9. Antilop high chair, £15, IKEA – IKEA’s Antilop high chair is an affordable staple in many homes – it’s only £15 and the big plus is the legs can be removed quickly for easy storage (we use it as an extra high chair for our nanny share). It’s a fairly basic design, but Cove Baby offer cushions, place mats, footrests and wood-effect leg wraps to take your high chair from simple to stylish in seconds.

Of course it goes with out saying that you can find a lot of these designs secondhand – which can help save those precious pennies and in turn not take too many resources from the planet. Don’t forget to browse eBay or Facebook Marketplace for similar versions.

What do you think? Did you choose any of these for your own child?
