10 of the best minimalist bed frames

It’s time for another ‘Best of’ – rounding up 10 of the best minimalist designs in a particular furniture category. Today it’s the turn of minimalist bed frames. It’s a post I’ve had requested a number of times, so I hope it may be useful to you if you’re looking for a simple, Scandi style bed.

There’s lots of different types of minimalist bed frames – there’s ottoman beds with lift-up storage, more substantial beds with upholstered headboards, wooden beds with slender frames, and increasingly more popular, low platform beds. I’ve rounded up a mix of upholstered and wooden framed beds, but each have a minimal, pared-back feel – whether that’s being lifted up on slender legs to give a sense of space, or having a sleek, refined headboard without any superfluous details.

The 10 minimalist bed frames I’ve included in my round-up range from just £129 to £1,325, proving that simple, considered design can cater to all sorts of budgets. I love the texture of the Anto double bed from Habitat if you’re looking for a more boho-look, but one of my favourites has to be the Streiko bed from noo.ma – it’s just so pure and elegant. I’m also drawn to the Japanese-style platform bed from the Natural Bed Company, I can see that being used in a neutral scheme with Bauwerk walls and soft linens.

Choosing to have a head board or not is often down to personal preference; whether you like to sit up and read in bed or whether you’re content with just leaning back on a pillow. All the beds with headboards here are quite discrete, but if you really want to go for the minimalist look, do without a headboard and instead style with two sets of pillows and a simple cushion for a relaxed, inviting feel.
