November seems to have come around suddenly, now its dark at about 4 o’clock and all I want to do is hibernate until summer. I do like autumn and winter, brisk dog walks bonfires, woolly hats and all, but I do miss the sunshine and longer days. So with that in mind I’ve styled the cosiest area of the house – the bedroom – for November’s Styling the Seasons. November for me is a bit of a dud month, between my birthday in September, when autumn is still a bit of a novelty, and the excitement of Christmas in December. One of my favourite things to do then (not that the weather is always an excuse..) is have long, lazy lie-ins, and early nights in, with a glowing candle and good book for company. I’ve used accents of orange to give this nook a warming feel, from an old Indian wall hanging to the spiky sticks with orange jewels (anyone know what plant they’re from?). Some soft lighting from a John Lewis lamp and an Anthropologie candle complete the look. On that note, I’m climbing into bed…
Ps. Join in, style any surface in your home, from the dining table or sideboard to mantelpiece or kitchen worktop, to represent the change of month. Then share using the hashtag #StylingTheSeasons
The cushions are from Ikea would you believe! I always like a bit of stripes, and the lovely cosy blanket is from one of my favourite shops, The French House.
These matches I found in one of the most stylish supermarkets in Amsterdam called Marqt. It was open and light, with concrete floors, blackboards and on-trend industrial lighting, a far cry from Tesco or Sainsbury’s let me tell you… I love the packaging and they’re actually really good matches (I never thought I’d say that about matches…).
